OF WOE AND WONDER

by Terese Mason Pierre & Lawrence Stewen

We’re proud to bring you Issue 4.2 of Augur Magazine, just in time for 2021’s conclusion. In these pages, explore lands strange and familiar, delve into haunted pasts, recall childhood in all its awkward brightness, ruminate on closeness and separation, and manifest impossible strength.

These stories and poems are ever-expanding, courageous in their exploration—both external and internal—and powerful in their weaving. They sew the speculative into every corner of the human experience: grief, ancestry, culture, identity, language, futurisms, the environment, and dreams.

Our team poured heart and enthusiasm into this issue, and we’re especially thankful for that. The timeline was unusually short, but production was smooth! We’re all more comfortable in our roles now; the previous issue saw many people taking on new tasks for the first time. Our newfound confidence shows in the way our readers and editorial staff outshone their already exceptional standards.

We were more conscious of our strengths and limitations during this editorial process. While we were confident, we were also more realistically able to manage our expectations. Learning how we can work together to publish an issue while being mindful of the health and capacity of everyone on our all-volunteer team is something we always prioritize, and something we know our community appreciates. Reading these new works, from twenty-one marvelous creators, we hope our audiences will go beyond their horizons, and rediscover diverse and wondrous worlds.

Stay tuned for updates on AugurCon 2022, the launch of Tales and Feathers, and our next themed issue: Joyful Imaginations.
