MUST BE LOVE, THEN

by Ashley Hynd

there are only two possible explanations
for the spider in your kitchen
One, is that your Great Grandmother

wants you to write
the other is that love is about
to come into your life

you aren’t too pleased
about the idea of it crawling back
into the mug of cherries

watching carefully as it crawls
out again, then around
the counter, compost, up the wall

you go back to cleaning the kitchen
and when you look again
you have no idea where it went
