Call for Comics

Send us your beautiful graphic art

Augur Magazine is looking for gorgeous, stunning, and otherwise wonderful comics to fill out its 2019 and 2020 issues.

Not familiar with us? We’re a paid publication based in Toronto, Canada that focuses on publishing fantasy, science fiction, slipstream, fabulism, and “dreamy realism”; publishing creators across a number of intersections; and bringing together speculative and realist literatures.

We are open to submissions from Comic Artists August 1-30. Payment is $50/page up to $200.

If you think your work suits us, we’d love to hear from you.

What to send

We are especially interested in artists that create outside of styles commonly found in mainstream comics (not that there’s anything wrong with rigid panels and bright colors). We are looking for work that flows well visually and narratively, but doesn’t necessarily have to adhere to a set up and resolution structure. In-between stories, loose narrative art and visually stunning dream sequences are all welcome!

For finished work please send:

  • previously unpublished short comics (5 pages and under) in 300DPI+, PDF format that is suited to an 8.5 inch height and a 5 inch width
  • legal name (in case of publication) as well as preferred/pen name
  • whether you are Canadian and/or Indigenous (CND/TI, or anyone who lives and is a citizen of Canada/this part of Turtle Island), International (INT, which includes anyone who does not live in Canada/this part of Turtle Island) or Other (OTH, which includes students in Canada, residents, ex-patriots, etc.)—we track this information for grants purposes
  • if comfortable, disclose your intersectional identity (eg. a white nonbinary individual with a disability)—as vaguely or as detailed as you’d like, so we can make sure we’re publishing a variety of voices (Not mandatory)

OR

For proposals please send:

  • Link to an online portfolio OR attach up to 5 pages portfolio work in PDF
  • script draft and/or outline synopsis (1-3 paragraphs explaining any backstory, intent, clarifications that you feel should be noted in the review process)
  • optional: story board roughs (not looking for details here, just block out the general visual layout)
